Hawaii to Every WhereElse

This is my first post ever.
I would just like to begin by saying hello and welcome to everyone that is interested in the Islands. In this blog you will be able to find out a little bit more about Hawaii and what really goes on here. There have been many myths, misconceptions, and stereotyping of the characters that live here, but even more about the people that live everywhere else. People from Hawaii also have an opinion about what is going on in the so called "Mainland". This blog will help us all understand the sheer mystery about the life style barrier and create a new sense of understanding about the differences and similarities between the two.

I want to just say Aloha, my name is Justin Richard Keoki Hozaki Davis. I was born and raised in Makawao, Maui and just this year graduated from Kamehameha Schools. I live in agriculture land where there is a lot of farming opportunities, but throughout the years there have been a decline in actual farms because of industrialization. I would say I am no different than any other person from the mainland(besides paying more for housing). I have a two story house, tile floor, sink, bathroom, toilet, all made from modern material. None of this grass hut infrastructures some people often believe we live in.

If you and I are so very similar the question for the day is why are we so different? A Hawaiian from the mainland is so different from a Hawaiian from Hawaii. Believe me I have seen the difference. Please, please reply back to this blog and give your opinion about this issue that has never been touched ever before. After I read your reviews I will post back with my incite. I will try and keep you informed everyday about Hawaii if you promise to tell me a little about the mainland.

Well as you say, there is indeed a vast misconception of cultural differences between "mainlanders" and Hawaiians. As a local islander myself, also born and raised entirely on Maui, I have often been criticized on my heritage. Few I have met online even basely believe that we still live in huts and live on the primordial level of hunters and gatherers. That is merely the cause of, no offense intended, ignorance. While ignorance is also prevalent in Hawaii, it is common amongst "mainlanders" not because of mental deficiencies, but merely not knowing enough and making simple assumptions. We are out here, people, and we do exist. We are equally as advanced as any of you. Yes, I have an xbox 360. Yes, I have a car. Yes, I hate taxes. Yes, I believe George Bush is a Presidon't who American't. This isn't a tale of how we are different, it's of how we are the same. As intelligence is defined in dictionaries "the ability to determine relations between to seemingly different things, to understand," We must learn from each other to gain any means of intelligence. To compare our ideas, our ideals. We ARE the same, yet everyone is different. We're both on the internet, are we not?
